Simpson Baseball Coaching Staff

Assistant Coach Ryan Willis

After a four-year playing career at Simpson, Ryan Willis joins head coach Nathan Roling's staff as an assistant coach in 2023-24.

Willis brings three years of coaching experience to the Simpson staff. He was a part of the varsity coaching staff at Waverly-Shell Rock High School from 2021-23, assisting with hitting, infield and baserunning. The Go-Hawks advanced to the state tournament in 2021 and won back-to-back NEIC Championships in 2022 and 2023.

Willis was a three-year letterwinner for the Storm, playing in 70 games. He tallied 51 hits, 37 runs and 15 RBIs while in Simpson uniform.

The Waverly, Iowa native earned a spot on the All-American Rivers Conference Academic Team two times and graduated cum laude with a degree in management and sports administration in 2023.

Assistant Coach Trent Dooley

Trent Dooley begins his sixth season as an assistant baseball coach at Simpson in 2023.

A two-time letterwinner for the Storm, Dooley amassed 65 hits, 39 runs scored and 26 RBIs across 72 games. He is tied for sixth all-time in career triples (9) and also recorded eight doubles, two home runs, and five stolen bases.

The 2017 Simpson graduate is originally from Martensdale, Iowa. He attended Southeast Community College before completing his career with the Storm.

Assistant Coach Josh Breitbarth

Josh Breitbarth returns for his second season as an assistant coach for Simpson in 2023.

During his three-year playing career at Simpson, Breitbarth tallied 54 career hits, 31 RBIs, 15 doubles and seven home runs while splitting time between the catcher and designated hitter spots in the lineup. Behind the dish, the two-time letterwinner threw out 28 would-be basestealers and held a .990 fielding clip. He capped off his career with an All-American Rivers Conference Second Team selection.

In addition to his role with the Storm, Breitbarth is also on staff at Indianola High School as an assistant. He previously coached at Martensdale St. Mary's High School for two seasons (2018-20).

The Hilo, Hawaii native graduated in 2021 from Simpson with a degree in sports administration and physical education. He currently serves as the K-5 physical education teacher at Whittier Elementary.
