Ethan Westphal
Assistant Coach

A former professional baseball player and decorated collegiate pitcher, Ethan Westphal begins his first season on the Storm coaching staff in the fall of 2018.

Westphal comes to Simpson after pitching professionally for three seasons, two in the Colorado Rockies organization and, most recently, for the Lake Erie Crushers in the Frontier League. In his only season in the Frontier League, Ethan sported a 1.97 ERA over 32.0 innings pitched. In the Colorado Rockies organization, Westphal pitched a season each for the Grand Junction Rockies and Boise Hawks.

Prior to his time with the Rockies, Westphal helped lead University of Central Missouri to the 2016 NCAA Division II World Series. In his lone season for the Mules, Westphal compiled a 11-2 record with a 2.60 ERA. Prior to UCM, Westphal was an All-Iowa Community College Athletic Conference performer at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa.

Westphal also served as assistant coach for his alma mater, Martensdale-St. Mary’s High School, from 2014-16. He helped the Blue Devils make the state tournament in each of his three seasons coaching. Westphal also had an accomplished high school career for Martensdale-St. Mary’s, accumulating a 48-1 record, earning three All-State accolades and two time Super Team All-State nods. Westphal appeared at the state tournament all five seasons, and helped lead the Blue Devils to State Championships in 2010 and 2011 when the team went a combined 87-0.

Trent Dooley
Assistant Coach

Trent Dooley completed his second season as an assistant baseball coach for the Storm in 2018. Dooley graduated from Simpson in 2017 and was the team's starting centerfielder in 2016 and 2017. He hit .262 during his career with two home runs and 26 RBIs.
